School, Parent and Council Testimonials

My 13 year old son and 11 year old daughter attended the Graffiti Workshop in April of this year and had the most awesome experience. They learnt from a very cool guy about his own personal experiences and they were able to get hands on and create amazing artwork. A day never to be forgotten as each canvas takes place of pride on our mantelpiece. Thank you Scott. Sue
Julies DJ workshops were great for our group. Julie engaged and explained things so well that she enthused the whole group. What a pleasure to work with such a happy and professional person looking forward to more in the future. Paula and the Gateway award group
West Berkshire Council Arts & Leisure Team has worked closely with DJ Workshops over the last two years on a range of projects including Arts Award and our Get Active projects - Street Active for young people over 11 and Family Active. For these projects DJ Workshops have delivered a variety of sessions including DJ'ing, Music Production, Electric Guitar and Graffiti workshops. Following are comments from young people and families who have taken part in sessions..."Fantastic, very enthusiastic instructors"..."Excellent such a good chance for the kids to have a hands on go & explore music"..."They gave good directions"..."What a session a chance to do something I haven't done before" James Craggs Arts & Leisure Development Team West Berkshire Council
Hinchley Wood School DJ workshops Ltd have been working with students from Hinchley Wood School for 5 years. They run a variety of dj, MC and Music production workshops, ranging from taster day session to weekly classes where student work towards their Bronze Art Award accreditations. During this time Julie Sacre has taken over 50 students through the Bronze Arts Award at our school. We also have 4 students that have just passed their Silver Arts Award in DJ'ing. Julie has built up a wonderful relationship with the students and they all treat her with greatest degree of respect. Students have also worked with Julie on projects outside of school and they have djed at various festivals.
Hinchleywood School I just wanted to say a personal thank you to you for supporting our year 8 fundraising disco. The event was a huge success & we are indebted to you, not only for your time & effort but also for the equipment you so kindly loaned us. You must be enormously proud of the boys, as am I. Thank you once again for a great evening. Yours Sincerely Gill Budd Head of Learning - year 8
Tomlinscote School and Sixth Form College Julie Sacre has been working here at Tomlinscote for four years now delivering the D J Mixing course as part of an inclusion project. Students who undertake the course gain in confidence from developing new skills. Part of the programme is to mentor and support students. They can also go on to take an Arts award or even an NCFE Certificate in Music Technology in D J Mixing which Julie delivers. Evaluations show that the students thoroughly enjoy the course and they are certainly grateful for the chance to develop their knowledge and skills in such a contemporary and innovative way. S A Allen Assistant Principal Inclusion
The DJ club is an important part of Hinchley Wood School's music department as it gives students the opportunity to explore music that they are interested in out of school within the school environment. Jenny Randall Music College Coordinator
The Warwick School Julie has provided a rigorous and challenging programme of work with a large number of disaffected and challenging students who have a range of social and emotional difficulties. Through her work with them, Julie has been instrumental in helping to raise their self esteem and given them a sense of pride in their work. Julie has developed excellent relationships with a significant number of these students and they have engaged with her and the programme in order to achieve their Bronze Arts Award. Over the years more than 70 students have passed this award.
In addition to her work with students during lessons, she also runs a voluntary before school and after school club which is very well attended. She has been able to harness their natural DJ ability, but has also helped to develop their emotional intelligence and many of these students rely on her weekly work with them keep their focus of the rest of the week during their normal school lessons. The DJ students have showcased their work during our Annual Summer Concerts, The W Factor Competition and The Warwick Has Talent Challenge: they are very proud of the skills that they have learned and have developed the confidence to demonstrate this work to their peers. Mirella Basso Assistant Head Teacher
Bishop David Brown School DJ Workshops Limited have organised lessons at Bishop David Brown for over 8 years. We have found the inclusion of DJ Mixing in the timetable to be a useful tool, as we have offered it as an incentive for students to behave and also for students who have performed well. We have been very impressed with the way she engages with the students- particularly in the case of one student who had a poor school record to say the least. Her approach has really focussed him and will hopefully become part of his GCSE course work. Stephanie Bryan Performing Arts Manager
Collingwood College The DJ Workshop programme has been an enormous success as far as we are concerned. It has not only taught the students who attend it interesting and exciting practical skills, it has given them a confidence and a boost to their self esteem, which many have so badly needed. They have learnt to work together, in a co-operative way, and have come out with their own mix CD which they are enormously proud of. All their evaluations, without exception, have been very positive and many have said how much they would like to do the course again, or at least do some more! You began working with us in 2007, so you must have had quite a few students through your hands over the years. It is great that students can now receive the Bronze Arts Award qualification at the end of the course. Having looked through a number of their folders and heard some of their mixes, I have been really impressed with the quality of what they have achieved. Many thanks, Julie, and long may you go on helping young people in this way. Jess Hawkemore Teacher/Course Co-ordinator
Spelthorne Borough Council I have found DJ Workshops very easy and professional to work with. Their appeal is that they provide all the equipment and expertise and the activities that DJ Workshops do with the Young People are fun and attractive to them. Richard Jones Arts and Young People Officer
Beechfield Children's Unit Julie has been running workshops for the young people at Beechfield Children's unit since 2004. These workshops have always proven to be extremely enjoyable for everyone and it's great to see the fantastic energy, motivation and confidence they promote. In Particular the Bronze Arts Award is an important part of our strategy for accreditation for the work that young people undertake and provides them with a recognisable qualification when they move on. At our Ofsted inspection in 2009, the inspectors praised the level of accreditation that had been achieved by the young people at Beechfield, a major element of which was the Bronze Arts Award, as delivered by Julie. We are already looking forward to Julie's next visit Sheila Carroll Head of Education - Beechfield
Festival 100 Please pass on my compliments to the boys that attended on behalf of DJ Workshops Ltd to run the Urban Music Workshops. They were professional, industrious and very popular! In particular, I had some absolutely glowing reports re Paul on Electric Guitars. I popped in to see a row of girls playing a fantastic ensemble and when I asked their Guider how long they'd been learning, she said about 15 minutes! If you read some of the reports back from those that attended you will be able to pick out some fabulous feedback for the Music/Dance zone to which you contributed. Many thanks again and hope the boys enjoyed the day too. Helen Girl Guides celebrating 100 years - Newbury 2010
Vinvolved I'm just writing to say thank you to you and your staff for the excellent workshops that you have delivered to us over the past 7 years. I have always been impressed by the way in which you and your staff engage hard to reach young people, the structure of your workshop and the professional level of skill that the young people develop. The workshops are always well structured with the learning outcomes staggered to enable easy consumable sections, This has enabled many of young people to gain the Bronze Arts Award accreditation and learn skills that they may not of been able to if the workshops had not been structured so well. The young people have always been impressed by the level of skill and knowledge that you bring to these sessions and have always enjoyed working with industry standard equipment. Lee Price Youth Diversity Development Worker
Westfield's Junior School - Hampshire Aim - To enrich the music curriculum and broaden children's experience in music. The children really enjoyed the workshops and were very excited about having the opportunity to try out DJing for themselves. All the children found the skills being taught accessible and were engaged in their learning. The impact of the workshops were felt in other curriculum music lessons because children felt more motivated by having had the opportunity to take part in a music session that not only valued the kind of music they enjoy, but also allowed them to experience it firsthand. The workshops were great fun but also had their serious side in that they met several of the requirements for the National Curriculum for music. For example they facilitated children in producing music in different ways, Analysing and comparing sounds, using ICT to change sounds and experiencing a range of recorded music. The sessions were delivered in a relaxed and friendly way and the children related well to Julie.
Thank you so much for the records that you so kindly gave to Ciaran. He has spent the weekend working out which records go together and marking the covers so that he remembers. Then he has been getting to grips with our decks, they are quite old but still do a similar amount of things to yours albeit with dials! Anyway thank you so much again and we look forward to hopefully seeing you again soon, Ciaran would love to show you what he can do! Beth, Kevin and Ciaran
